Fall is almost here and I’m itching to transition to some fall makeup. One of the easiest ways to make the switch is by simply applying a dark lipstick!
I know the dark lip was in for last fall, but I love it so much that I thought I’d post the look anyway. When I do a really dark lip like this, I try to keep my eye shadow fairly neutral. I did play it up a little bit with some false lashes, though.
I also shy away from blush when doing a dark lip, but I still contour and add a small amount of bronzer, just to warm up my face. I have quite pale skin, so it looks pasty if I don’t add some shadows back into my face. Actually, I have a small tan here, and as summer fades into fall my skin will become even more fair.
This year’s fall trends, as far as I can tell, are really simple nude lips, with darker eyeshadows (think of plums and burgundies). Also, freckles. Freckles are a thing this year. And not just normal freckles, but really obvious, drawn on freckles. I will eventually do a darker eye shadow look for fall, but I will not add fake freckles to my skin. I have a lot of freckles, and I do all I can to cover them up. Cute little freckles are fine, but mine cover my face and are more yellow-y looking, and makes my skin so uneven and blotchy. This is also why I avoid the sun like the plague. Every time my skin sees a UV ray, it gives birth to another freckle.

I’d like to take a moment to apologize for the mess my hair is in these photos. It was curled at one point during the day, but the humidity made it fall out and it looks limp. So, I am aware. I am.

For the look I went for in this post, the makeup application is so easy. It’s almost the same as my “Easy Classic Makeup” post.

Steps:

1. Apply your favorite medium coverage foundation. I used Lancome’s Teint Miracle in Ivory 4. I find that using a damp beauty blender gives you the “airbrushed” look that everyone desires.

2. Conceal under eyes with a brightening concealer. Use this same concealer to highlight your face. Set your concealer with translucent powder by pressing the powder into your skin.

3. Contour face and neck. I used Smashbox’s Color and Contour Palette. Refer to this photo if you’re unsure where to place contour (or your highlight). Next, apply bronzer directly above the contour on your cheeks, and a little on your chin. Blend the contour and bronzer together until it looks natural. You don’t want to look as though you have streaks of dirt on your face. Please… please blend.

4. Fill in your brows. I used Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade in dark brown. I love this product, but practice is necessary to get the hang of proper application.

5. Apply your favorite eyeshadow primer. For eyeshadows I used Smashbox’s Color and Contour Palette again. It is truly an amazing palette, especially for the price! I used the color “Vanilla” just under my brow for a small highlight, “Nectar” all over my lid and up to my crease, then I used “Nude” on the outer part of my crease. I used “Nude” again and dusted it onto my lower lash line to pull the look together. Lastly I used L’Oreal’s black liquid liner to line my upper lashline.

6. Apply false lashes. I used Ardell lashes. Bend the lashes a few times before applying. I usually apply these with my tweezers. Apply mascara to your lower lashes while the glue is drying, then apply mascara to the tops to blend your lashes with the false lashes. I used L’Oreal’s Miss Manga mascara.

7. Apply a plum lip liner, or a clear liner (I always use clear). Next, very carefully apply a plum lipstick. I used Emcosmetics Daredevil lipstick. I love this lipstick because it smells like cupcakes (to me it does, anyway) and it is so creamy and hydrating, yet doesn’t slip or slide off your lips. If you need to, clean up around the lip area with a concealer.

Of course, the final step is setting spray. This will keep your makeup looking fresh all day, and on very hot and humid days it will help prevent the dreaded meltdown.

Finished! Easy transition into fall, or a pretty look for a night out. If you try out this look tag me on instagram or twitter: @mishmoshmakeup. Eventually I’ll do more dramatic eye shadow colors, so leave a comment to suggest what I should do next!

xoxo,

Jenny
